Hopefully by now you are already humming along to Mungo Jerry, if not, now you might be. One thing that is for certain is that 8-Ball are looking forward to another fantastic Summer season being the Sussex wedding band for lots of newly-weds-to-be and all that it entails!
We in 8-Ball are all in avid agreement that summer is the most fun time of year. After all - who can be down when you have the weather on your side, with just enough of a cool breeze to make driving with the windows down and the tunes turned up one of the sweetest pleasures in life?
Into our 3rd year as a professional wedding band, the tweaks that come with experience have a summer set to be our biggest and best yet! Since establishing in 2015, the small margins for improvement quickly become plain to see. From a band perspective, here’s what we have spent the off season (perhaps slightly less busy season sounds better?) improving upon:-
- Equipment: Maintaining the high sound quality at every show is one of the first golden rules of ‘function banding’ (not grammatically correct but we like the ring of that). The first and foremost reason we are about to invest in a brand new PA!
- Repertoire: When ‘function banding’ you are always trying to achieve perfection with your set lists. 8-Ball’s golden rule is ‘have a little something for everyone’ and/or ‘cater to the occasion’. We have recently been getting a whole host of new hits under our belts! Which you could soon be hearing at your function (can it be a self-plug if it’s on your own blog?)
- Organisation: Every function band has their embarrassing stories! (I have two words for musicians out there – ‘Noise limiters’ – Am I right?!) As you may have read on a previous blog there may or may not have been one or two hastily recovered forgetful moments for 8-ball.. *Cough.. Mic Stands.. Cough* and Sam has now insisted upon making a check list – to be completed before any vehicle sets off. This is a job he is taking very seriously and though we may tease – good job too!
And there you have it. Our top tips for a good summer of ‘function banding’. Now let’s be having it!
